The gallery is having a New Member Show featuring works of art by Holly Cratty, Lory Lance, Bob Pappas, John Richards, and Mark Scheffer.
Due to the success of First Fridays, the galleries will be continuing the event all year, and this Friday, February 6, is the second Art Walk for the new year. We hope you will take advantage of these monthly opportunities to come to the galleries and businesses that are open from 5 to 8 on the first Friday of the month, meet your friends, enjoy food and music, taste wine poured by Barra of Mendocino, and see and perhaps take home some beautiful pieces of art.
Holly Cratty is showing six recent works. These abstracted acrylic landscapes and seascapes are minimalist, however they seek to capture something of the beauty, awe, and joy inherent in the inner and outer experience of being present in nature. These works focus on the use of color to convey the natural elements, atmospheric light, and space. Holly's work is represented by galleries in California, Oregon and Florida.
John Richards moved to the Ukiah area around 1972, working as a cabinetmaker, and loves to experiment by combining his woodworking and machine shop skills in intricate ways. He creates handmade pens and boxes, made from exotic woods from around the world, and local wood primarily from burls — black walnut, oak, redwood, maple, and buckeye. He inlays abalone, elk and deer antlers, and ebony and ivory from recycled piano keys in his pens. Last fall we wrote a profile on John and his work.
Lory Lance began designing jewelry over thirty-five years ago when she traveled among the nomadic tribes of East Africa. The imaginative and ingenious ornamentation each tribe created with materials from the barren lands they inhabited profoundly affected her. Lory creates wearable art that reflects that ethnic genius and is suitable for western tastes.
Bob Pappas is showing works in glass, and Mark Scheffer will be displaying his photographs.
